Different cultures have different wedding traditions. Though the basic idea is the same, that two people who are deeply in love are swearing their lives to one another, the mechanics of the wedding itself can be very different. One of the aspects of the wedding that can is the wedding dresses.
For example Native American wedding dresses are much more colorful than the traditional wedding dress. A Pueblo bride would wear a cotton garment tied above the right shoulder secured with a belt around the waist. A Hopi bride traditionally would have her garments woven by the groom and any men in the village who wished to participate. Native American brides stay away from the normal attire and use more comfortable fabrics. Which make their dresses more desirable to wear?
Meanwhile the tribes in Northern California will have a traditional bridal dress woven in colors: white for the East, blue for the South, yellow (orange) for the West; and black for the North. These colors would make wonderful dresses for the eye to see. Turquoise and silver jewelry were worn by both the bride and the groom in addition to a silver Concho belt. Jewelry was considered a shield against evils including hunger, poverty and bad luck. Like many wedding traditions, the Native Americans were very superstitious.
In the Far East the wedding traditions are fairly different in many Asian cultures the wedding color is red. Because red is the traditional color of good luck and austerity. Many women do choose other colors besides red. In Chinese weddings many brides opt for the modern western wedding dress. Red wedding saris are the traditional garment choice for Indian culture. They wear saris for the wedding and then traditional Indian wear afterwards.
Wedding dresses and rings vary between regions and countries. Some garments are more detailed than others but that doesn't make them any less special to the bride wearing them at their wedding. To us, who traditional wedding dresses are the white ball gowns we see every day, the traditional garb of these cultures may seem exotic and fun, but just like us they are digging into their roots.
