Tips On The Various Types Of Marquees Available In The Market

By Elaine O'brien

When it comes to holding a celebration, a marquee is an excellent addition to the event. This temporary structure allows guests to sit in comfort in the outdoors. From wedding receptions to corporate events, these structures are very helpful in protecting people from direct sunlight, and in some cases wind and dust. There are various types of marquees to choose from when it comes to your event and their use will depend on your budget and party size.

One of the earliest versions of these structures was probably the circus tent. Big canvas tents that accommodated the audience, performers and animals. While many traveling circus acts still use this medium, its use has since evolved.

Today, one of the most common times to see a marquee is during a wedding celebration. The tent is almost always white in color to suit the occasion. The tent size often depends on how many guests are in attendance with additional space for the performing band and a dance floor in the middle. Wedding tents often come with wall panels that can either be plain or have clear window spaces. They also have entrances that can be zipped up.

A simple tent is made up of an easily assembled frame roof lifted to sit on top of poles at each corner. The canvas covers the roof frame and the sides remain open. This design is very simple and has proven popular at events where the guests require easy movement. They tend to move in and out of these types of marquees frequently, and are not protected from the chilly air.

There use is also seen in open air markets. The traders easily set up their tents and display their goods underneath. The lack of walls makes it easy for buyers and the trader to move around. The lack of a central pole also means the trader has an easier space to work with. This kind of tent is named for its frame.

Pagodas are another popular option. Their design features a small tent topped with an attractive single peak. They are often used as the entrance hall to an event. They are usually walled with canvas but in some cases they can be left open air and joined with others in a look similar to frame marquees.

Many of the tents are made with aluminium frames. This makes them strong enough to hold the tent in place and still light enough to carry around and set up without much trouble. If not properly fixed however, a strong gust of wind may topple it. Simple party tents often come with a simple system of frames to set up. They can be hired without having to pay for labour as any able bodied person can do the work of setting it up and dismantling.

Just as there are various types of marquees based on design there are also various rates that are applied. The more elegant the design, the more expensive it is. They are also built to accommodate various numbers of people hence one design can come at various dimensions. The larger the tent the more expensive it is. When making a selection, be sure to consider your budget, number of guests and the design you want.
