The encroaching weather of the winter season had finally been lifted. Coming out of my house like a bear returning from hibernation on the first sunny day of spring I could see the yard was in disarray. With deck chairs irregularly placed and old, dirty unused plant pots sitting on a mildew stained deck I could see it was time for a good 'ol spring cleaning. Venturing back inside I began to take notice of dust collecting on the surface of TVs tops and unused coffee tables. An old designer wedding dress along with an assortment of random suits, jackets and clothes were haphazardly shoved inside a closest with little care. I knew it would take some effort but cleansing the entire house would be well worth it.
On average I tend to put things off like this until I necessarily must get it done and the bells of necessity were ringing. If I ever have any extra cash I'll hire a friend or two to do it all for me. I would prefer to pay out of my own pocket and avoid the manual labor then to get on my hands and knees scrubbing floors but this year I couldn't get anyone to do my bidding. Like they always say though; if you want something done right, do it yourself.
Beginning with the bathroom I scrubbed it to an immaculate state. To defend myself however; it isn't like I don't do regular wash downs of the sink after shaving or throw the mat at the base of the tub in the wash. It's simply that as I enter springtime cleaning mode I have a way of going all out until the job is done 100%.
The very next obstacle for me to tackle was that closet. Every year I do my spring cleaning and every year I'll seem to find all and shabby attire hanging in the corners of this closet. Going through every article of clothing I stopped to take a look at the designer wedding dresses hanging up. I wasn't exactly sure where it had come from but the detail and design were so beautifully immaculate and artfully conceived I thought it to be a waste simply sitting in the back of my old closet so I figured to take it down with some of the other unworn clothes to charity.
The weekend after I completed the cleaning job I had a couple people over for a nice little luncheon which included my mother. As we sat and discussed our daily activities she opened the infamous closet only to discover that her wedding dress was gone. Without warning she hit the ceiling as it was her very-own special wedding dress that I had given away to charity. I rushed back to where I dropped everything off to learn that someone else already took it. I thought spring cleaning was a good idea all I did though was lose a family heirloom.
