How To Create Good Wedding Speeches That Will Add To The Festivities

By Cecilia Burke

Is it possible to have a wedding without wedding speeches. The father of the bride will do the honors first, followed by the groom, and last the Best Man. At some weddings even the Maid of Honor may be asked to speak a few words. Before heading for the bar and joining the celebrations, the guests wait for the speeches to end.

Some would say wedding speeches are no fun at all. They are. Good speeches can add life and zest to wedding celebrations. However, there are only a few of these speeches. Because the speaker did not make any adequate preparations, the majority of the speeches fall flat.

Most wedding speeches are delivered as a ritual. The bride's father did not spend sufficient time reciting his lines because he's too busy making the arrangements, the groom can't seem to stand up and deliver because he's too overwhelmed by the occasion, and the best man is enjoying the attention and not worrying about the speech.

So how do you solve this? Do you think the guests should just suffer the speeches in silence during every wedding? Or should the speakers realize the importance of the occasion and do justice to the responsibility entrusted to them?

The speakers clearly must rise to the occasion. They must put in the same effort in their speeches as the families of the bride and groom have done in making the wedding arrangements. They need to remember that they were not asked to deliver an extempore speech or an impromptu. They had enough time and warning to get their speeches ready.

Then again, the wedding speeches that were delivered at t he spur of the moment are actually the best ones. But these speeches are given by those who are gifted. The rest have to work hard to prepare their speeches. What they need to do is spend some time putting their thought on paper, ideally at least a month before the big day.

They should not look for smart one-liners to liven their speeches but instead, they should focus on talking about the groom, the bride, and the family and friends. The guests who have taken time off their busy schedules to be present for the wedding should also be mentioned in the speech. Rehearsing the wedding speeches is always a good idea. Doing this will help eliminate unnecessary words or sentences. The speaker will also avoid stuttering in order to locate a word or sentence. His thoughts will then flow smoothly. They will be suited for the occasion which is very important and this will add to the overall joy and festivities.
