Affordable Charm Can Be Yours: Inexpensive, Attractive Weddings and Receptions

By Claudia Lang

If engraved cream heavy cardstock invitations with raised calligraphed lettering or a wedding cake in the shape of a Tiffany's box are things that get your pulse racing, you're probably not the sort of bride that will dig my suggestions. Not that there is anything wrong with those things at all, but I'm hoping to pass on some tips, tricks and advice to the more "out of the box" brides who like to mix things up a bit.

People have been known to throw a wedding together in just a few short months, so don't think you have to waste a whole year trying to get everything planned. You don't need all the trappings -- so find a decent venue that you and your hubby can live with for the reception.

Ask a friend to photograph the wedding. Use your iPod if you can't find a DJ on short notice. Create your own invitations and then, just show up to say 'I do'. Since you're not too concerned about the frills, you won't have to spend forever needlessly stressing over the plans. As long as you say your "I Do's," there's not much else to worry about.

Some brides (especially those who have already walked down the aisle once before) choose to forgo the traditional white or ivory wedding dress in favor of a more vibrant, unique hue. Wedding dresses can range from pale yellow to metallic hues of gold. Depending on which shade you choose, a wedding dress in one of these classic colors stands out for either a subtle or dramatic effect. Brides on a budget who want a nontraditional wedding dress need look no further than the bridesmaids' section of local boutiques.

Pick one or more non-traditional wedding ideas and work them into different aspects of your wedding. You will end up with a truly unusual day that all your guests will remember. Most importantly, it will be uniquely yours.
