The Incredible World of Tungsten Carbide Wedding Bands

By Rebecca Lilly

The nice thing about tungsten rings is that it doesn't matter whether you are wearing a ring designed specifically for a woman or if you are purchasing a men s wedding band, these rings will not scratch and will hold their polish.

If you are like me, you may be doubtful when you hear that these rings are a fit for women. When I think of tungsten rings I think of men s wedding bands, not necessarily a stylish ring for women. I guess this is because most of the rings I have seen are a bit larger, wider, and of course usually do not have a setting, so naturally I didn t think that these rings would be what women would enjoy. However, I must admit that I am wrong.

A tungsten carbide ring is pretty spectacular in that it is the only type of ring that will never need to be polished. The polish on the ring can last up to 50 years. This in itself makes a tungsten carbide ring special. A tungsten carbide ring should never dent or scratch; instead you will always have a shiny ring on your finger. You may notice when wearing a tungsten carbide ring that it feels a bit heavier than other types of rings.

A sandstone finish is a unique finish where the outer diameter ring looks as if it has a rough sandpaper effect finish however is completely smooth to touch. Many people also call this finish cross brushing. A sandstone finish will be matte and stand out, making many notice your ring.

During the Second World War, tungsten was very important. Portugal had a lot of wolframite ores that were used to make tungsten. Due to these ores Portugal had pressure put on it from both sides of fighting. These ores were beneficial in making tungsten for materials used for weapons.
